I really think this might be the first phone in the world with camera capability. The R520 and the MCA 10 camera unit can takes pictures and send thru MMS. The camera also works with T39s phone. The R520 is also perhaps the first phone with GPRS capability. It has a special snooze function for alarm which it can be activated or deactivated by waving our hand across it. Amazing huh?
How this is done? Apparently, a proximity sensor is implemented at the top section of the phone. So when you wave your hand, it is detected and therefore deactivate the corresponding alarm function.
The other new technology implemented that time is the in foil decoration, i.e. the decorative foil, the gold copper foil is moulded with plastic during plastic injection molding process. At that time, this is really an expensive technology. Besides that, I think it is also a two color mould, one color is for the substrate and the other is for the IRDA window. That makes this plastic parts super expensive.
